THE THING #5: King of Yancy Street

Published:

The 5-issue mini run concludes in a showdown on Yancy Street as Ben Grimm takes on Hammerhead, who will stop at nothing to get Sara and take her powers.

The Thing #5 by Tony Fleecs, Justin Mason, Alex Sinclair, and Joe Caramagna. (Credit Marvel Comics. Cover by Nick Bradshaw and Rachelle Rosenberg.)

Creative Team:

The Story:

Tony wraps up this story in an incredibly emotional way. Ben has finally had enough of bullies and teaches Sara how to deal with her bullies and to control her powers, which I thought this a heartwarming way to finish up this story.

READ LAST ISSUE’S REVIEW!

There is a hard exterior to Ben but, Tony goes beyond that and takes us inside of him and shows us what Ben means to Yancy Street and the softer side of him and what it truly takes to be a hero.

The Art and Letters:

Justin and Alex bring some flavor to this issue. They detail Grimm’s home, and they bring out the everyday people in various details and really bringing Yancy Street to life in this issue.

They do a great job showcasing Ben’s powers when he chooses not to hold back and even blasts us with bursts of vibrant light with Sara, and show just how scared she is. The moments between her and Ben are my favorite in this issue, as you can feel the tenderness and love leap from the panels.

Final Thoughts:

The Thing #5 concludes this short story and teaches us all a lesson in real life. Bullies are weak and scared, and it’s how we respond that truly matters. There is a hero within us all, and this issue is something I think the world really needs right now. Go pick this up!
