‘GEN V’ Season 2 Ep. 4 “Bags” – Sophomore year is gonna be the GOAT

From the world of ‘The Boys,’ ‘GEN V‘ is back. After a bloody good start to the new school year, episode 4 just dropped on Prime Video.

WARNING: While this review is spoiler free for episode 4 of season 2, everything that has come before is about as safe as an octopus in the same room as the Deep. Not safe.

Last Seen on ‘Gen V’

This season kicked off with a glimpse into the past of the Odessa Project. With an explosion of body parts we see a Compound V serum go incredibly wrong because it’s not ready.

*Sidenote for other Supernatural fans: I got to assume the year being 1967, and a song choice with a lyric that says, “I love you, baby” had to be intentional, right? Maybe I’m reaching, but there are a lot of Supernatural crossovers on and behind the cameras.

Back in present day the kids all mourn the death of Andre, but now they’re “free.” Freedom comes with the price of following the rules laid out for them. They all got themselves in trouble when they questioned what was happening last year. Some of the answers they got in season 1, only led to more questions.

As Sam struggles with having to feel his emotions for the first time in a long time, everyone else is trying to find out what the hell is going on. Marie digs into her past, while Emma and Polarity hit the school records. They learn the new Dean may not be who he says he is, and Marie’s past wasn’t all an accident. We then wrap up with Jordan giving a speech as the new #1. However, instead of sticking to the “transtastic” speech they go off script, and tell the truth. The truth about Andre, Cate, and the Starlighters.

‘GEN V’ Season 2 Episode 4: “Bags”

We kick off episode 4 with the always truthful truth bombs of Firecracker warning everyone about the woke agenda. The fire Jordan (London Thor & Derek Luh) started is still getting put out. In response to said fire, Dean Cipher comes up with a plan. A plan he’s sure will make everyone forget what they heard. While, a plan to expose Cipher is also devised, Marie reluctantly goes to train with the Dean. In the end, neither plan goes off without a hitch, but something new about Cipher is found out, and Marie learns something new about her powers.

Season 2 is getting a lot more twisted

While season 1 was all about uncovering a mystery and exposing the bad guys, season 2 has really taken it up a notch. The mysteries this season seem bigger and more shocking as they’re exposed. We continue to be thrown off, making the next reveal feel even bigger. All while the absurdity of what we expect from this universe keeps us laughing, turning our heads, and gasping. I’ll never be able to look at a garden gnome the same again.

Overall Grade: 9/10

“Bags” had me completely sucked in from beginning to end. Emma continues to be the absolute best friend a human or supe could ever have. While, Marie and Jordan show everyone they’re the ultimate power couple. We wrap with Dean Cipher exposing a truth about himself. Suddenly season one’s supe virus making Dean, doesn’t seem so scary.
