PREDATOR KILLS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE #2: Shock and Awe

Published:

With the help of Kraven the Hunter, the Yautja have begun their full-scale invasion of Earth, starting with their mightiest heroes and villains. With their most powerful allies being violently taken out, Earth’s fate is up in the air looking for a savior that may never come.

Predator Kills the Marvel Universe #2 by Benjamin Percy, Marcelo Ferreira, Daniel Picciotto, Jay Leisten, Frank D’Armata, and Clayton Cowles. (Credit Marvel Comics. Cover by Leinil Francis Yu and Matt Milla.)

Creative Team:

Benjamin Percy (WRITER), Marcello Ferreira (PENCILS), Daniel Picciotto (INKS and PENCILS), Jay Leisten (INKS), Frank D’Armata (COLORS), Leinil Francis Yu and Matt Milla (COVER).

The Story:

Percy takes what he started in issue 1 and cranks it up to 11 in this second issue. The ominous tone fits the all-out blitz that is being led by Kraven, and they are striking us in our hearts with the characters that are being taken out from the start.

Percy is building suspense and a sense of hopelessness as he opts to start by taking out even bigger characters in this issue in a shocking sequence. At this point I have no idea who will be left to stop this and it is such excellent storytelling.

The Art and Letters:

Ferreira, Picciotto, Leisten, and D’Armata match intensities in this issue. The way they detail and show our favorite characters being violently ripped apart is detailed, bloody, and left my jaw dropped each time. Seeing the various tools of the Yautja go to work and how clever they are brings out the shock in their work. There is a particular sequence with Magneto that was so uncomfortable to watch, as it was drawn in a way that made his eyes and outfit appear to be ripped apart. It is both a beautiful issue but, also sad seeing the events unfold on every panel.

Final Thoughts:

Predator Kills the Marvel Universe #2 is violent, brutal, and will leave you feeling hopeless. The shock and awe of the brutal assault led by Kraven is here to shake up the Marvel Universe and making this a top issue of the year.

Overall Grade: 10/10
