MARVEL ZOMBIES (RED BAND) #1: It’s Gobblin’ Time!

The Fantastic Four set off on an unauthorized space adventure, and the team may have bitten off more than they can chew. The rocket has returned home, but with it lies something hungry and terrifying in its hull. Enter, the Frightful Four!

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

The Story:

Griffin and Ethan are an underrated duo, especially if you are familiar with their other works, and this issue demonstrates why. The overall narrative of this issue drives as though it is an old-time TV show, which adds to the aesthetic in this horror story.

Typically zombies are a mindless bunch after food however, opting to go with the Fantastic or rather Frightful Four being aware of their actions and speaking strategy makes this story all the more frightening.

One thing remains a constant and that will always be Peter Parker losing family in a sad manner to which this issue is no different. I cannot wait to see where the team takes this.

The Art and Letters:

When they say this is a red band issue, they mean RED BAND. The art team fills the panels full of blood and flesh-eating that they do not shy away from. The overwhelming sense of rotting flesh and amount of blood plays into my senses, giving me a rotting copper sense.

Each zombie is detailed in their own way to stand out from the rest, and they capture the color and detail of the rotting flesh that attacks the city streets. The panels where Reed is using his stretch abilities but, is full on zombie are some of the most terrifying and they nail down the tone with this issue.

Overall Grade: 9.5/10

Marvel Zombies (Red Band) #1 jumps straight into the flesh-eating chaos of a zombie outbreak and puts a nice twist on it all at the same time. The team holds nothing back and captures our attention immediately. Make sure to pick this up!
