*SPOILERS AHEAD*

This is a story that involves a lot of time jumping and leads to something fascinating. Phillip is incredible at storytelling, and this book, so far, is no exception. For those who may not be familiar with WarWorld, Johnson does a great job of catching you up on the need to knows before diving into this story.

He kicked this issue off with an ominous overtone and made a switch in mood that I found to be incredible as it gave me a false sense of peace before all hell broke loose.

I recommend reading the field notes in the final two pages, as Johnson delivers some crucial information to set up future issues and provides us with a lot to be intrigued by.

Alex and Scott hit us with a burst of beautiful imagery in this kick-off issue. The details of the background in the stars and colors in space significantly contribute to setting the tone right from the start in this issue. Alex’s ability to color and Scott’s subtle facial expressions contribute to the soft, family tones, which then flood me with a sense of calm and peace. What the team is able to do with their panel as far as spacing and delivering gorgeous one shots give us so much to love in this issue.

The Adventures of Superman Book of El #1 launches us into a story that spans across time and space. We are given enough backstory before diving into the meat of what is to come that it will leave you on the edge of your seat. This will be a must-read for fans of Superman and those looking to get into the character.

Overall Grade: 9.5/10
