Al allows this issue to take on a more narrative-driven approach and cools down the action, which works so splendidly, as this issue is all about Michael finding himself again. Bringing in Batman would typically mean that there is bound to be action and bad guys getting beaten down however, Al utilizes him in a more antagonistic manner that serves the story well and moves Michael’s along at the same time.

This issue may have been my favorite so far in the run due to the narrative experience we are taken on as Lucas and Andworld Design serve up crafty ways to tell the various perspectives. The present day and the past are linked more than we think as there is something brewing waiting to explode.

Marissa adopts a wonderful array of colors in this particular issue as we are met with bursts of pinks, yellows, purples, and more, showcasing the fiery danger the Nexus engine is leaving Gotham in. Valentine builds a detailed background full of destruction and rubble, which serves to build into the narration and helps Michael find himself again. With the help of Edwin, who is showcasing a vibrant and ominous Apokolipse this issue subtly weaves its way around the dialogue,, bringing forth immense details.

Things are heating up, and it is exciting seeing the inner workings of Michael Holt’s mind as well as Bruce testing him all at the same time. It’s not too late to dive into this terrific story!
