Wild Animals is something that packs a mystery punch. When I first read about Neil, I was interested in his background, and what he was doing in this particular town. This second issue goes right into why he is here. He is looking for information about a person who was involved with his dad’s death. Neil also explained as to why he had gotten those scars that are across his face and down his arm.
Neil goes to the local library, and meets a guy named Dutch. He is very friendly, but I am skeptical of him. Neil doesn’t hang out with him, but, I feel like at some capacity Dutch will have more conversation with him. Neil does confront the sheriff who had something to do with his father’s death, and things go south. I was very surprised of the cliffhanger at the end.
In terms of story, I felt like the story went too fast. I was expecting a kind of draw to the story. I wanted to hear more from Dutch and Neil, and get some more background of everything. I’m sure in future issues, they will dive into Neil’s past, and answer some more questions about what his dad was up to. I’m sure the issues will answer what Neil’s dad did when he was alive. Another question is, where is Neil’s mom? Is she alive? Does she have anything to do with what happened?
As far as the art, it’s very nice. Very detailed with each panel, and it pops off the page. It is definitely a different style than I have ever seen. I like how sharp and detailed it is, when the action is happening. I’m interested to see how the rest of the issues will look, as I read along with the story.
Overall Grade: 8.5/10
