The Summer of Superman continues, as when we last saw Krypto, he had fled the clutches of nasty Lex Luthor and found himself in the mountains full of snow and the vast nothingness. While Krypto may need saving, he encounters someone who shows us that not every hero is human.

The Story:
Matt :
Ryan does something incredibly interesting and intriguing with this issue and allows for the artwork to tell the story. This is not a heavy dialogue issue, which works to perfection because, there is still so much being told. There is a pretty exciting cliffhanger at the end alluding to a certain someone arriving to Earth and setting up their journey together. In the meantime what dialogue we do get is heartwarming and sad in the same breath as Krypto is saving a girl who was lost in the woods, pulling on the parental heartstrings in me.
Megan:
As this comic run continues, I’m more than positive Ryan North is just trying to see how many gut punch feelings he can make the readers feel. Every issue so far has hit us all right in our emotions, and I’m here for it. In Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton #3, we see everyone’s favorite superdog continue his journey on Earth, but this time finds himself in the presence of a kind-hearted girl named Elizabeth. Elizabeth looks just as lost as Krypto, and as she says it, they’ll just be lost together. But with it being the dead of Winter, both are feeling the crushing chill of the season. This puts Elizabeth in more danger than Krypto, so it’s up to him to keep her save.
The Art:
Matt:
Ian and Mike do a lot of the narration through their incredible artwork. The details in the empty forest give us that truly alone feeling and instill that creeping sense of fear within us. They manage to give an array of emotions through Krypto’s eyes and detail the story that way, which is not an easy feat when you are dealing with telling a story more through art. It allows the team to shine, and there are beautiful moments such as Krypto carrying Elizabeth on his back. Despite taking place in winter and a snowy area, there is an array of browns, greens, reds, and more within this book.
Megan:
What I loved was that at one point, Krypto is running with Elizabeth on his back, and her red coat looks so much like his usual bright red cape. I thought that was a great way to show Krypto was doing his superdog duties and saving the day. Besides that, there was so much to appreciate about the artwork of Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton #3. There was much more focus put into the art, rather than the dialogue, which fit this comic excellently. The artists continue to impress and create a beautiful comic that illustrates the emotions of the story perfectly.
Final Thoughts:
Matt:
Krypto The Last Dog of Krypton #3 is a beautiful art-driven issue, allowing for the story to be told not through narration and dialogue but through its panels, telling a compelling story and setting up something exciting to come.
Megan:
With much more focus put into the art rather than the dialogue of the characters, I’d say this was beautifully made by the creative team, who have yet to miss in this run.
Overall Grade: 10/10
