The Ultimates #15 – The Legend of Shen-Qi is here!

Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I’m going to be reviewing the 15th issue of The Ultimates from Marvel Comics!

Our heroes are preparing for the return of the Maker! It’s sure to be a battle that will push them to their very limits, but first they have to prepare. So let’s jump into it!

The Ultimates #15 by Deniz Camp (Writer), Von Randal (Guest Artist), Erick Arciniega (Color Artist), VC’s Travis Lanham (Letterer) is a captivating read from start to finish that is going to leave readers wanting more ASAP!

The Story

Deniz Camp is on a legendary run with this series, and this issue is just further cementing his legacy right now. This issue is, without a doubt, one of the best ones of it’s run thus far!

It features a captivating back story that honestly left me wanting more. I was also floored with the ending.

Don’t get me wrong, the ending is NUTS! Deniz really doesn’t pull any punches with this run, and the ending is proof of that! But the real treat is the back story of Shen-Qi, the 8th wielder of the Iron Fist. He’s quite possibly the best one their ever has been in any universe, and certainly in this universe.

I would LOVE to get a mini-series run exploring the backstory of Shen-Qi and fleshing out his character a little bit more! It’s such a fascinating one that had me very interested, and the character Iron Fist doesn’t often interest me much.

The Artwork

Von Randal is the guest artist for this issue, and he is fantastic from start to finish. This is the first time I’m seeing his work, and I have to say I’m very impressed with what I see. Every panel is so crisp, and detailed that it really adds to the stunning visuals you’re used to in this Ultimate universe.

FINAL POINT: This series continues to be must read and it’s thanks to the likes of Deniz Camp & the entire creative team. It’s some of the best storytelling you’ll read with each issue and the build to the Maker’s return has been absolutely perfect!

Overall Grade: 10/10
