The Story for ‘What If…? Goofy Became Spider-Man #1

It’s the Spider-Man origin story we all know too well. However, Goofy flips the story we know on its head. With Aunt Tessie at his side, Uncle Ben shows up in a very different way. A less traumatizing way. Just like the other Mickey and friends Marvel stories What If…? Goofy Became Spider-Man creatively replaced a lot of the Marvel story we know with the Disney characters we all grew up on, and made it all more kid friendly. Complete with a lesson and a fairy tell ending.

These comics are perfect any Disney loving Marvel fan, and even better for those fans raising Disney loving Marvel fans. Despite my 8 year old being named Logan, Spider-Man is his favorite superhero, so we read this one together. He said, “I think it looks exactly like the real Spider-Man and it is a really good book. My favorite part was when he got bit.” He’s not only a Goofy and Spidey fan, he also loves insects and arachnids.

The Art

Every page was perfectly drawn and colored. It’s exactly what you would expect and want from a Marvel comic with a classic Disney character twist. Over the top moments, with tons of nods to the actual origin story of Peter Parker. All of these crossover comics have just been incredibly fun to read, and take in the art. Goofy Parker truly looks amazing in his Spidey suit.

Logan’s thoughts on the art, “The art was magnificent.”

Overall Grade: 9.5/10

If you’ve enjoyed any of the other What If Disney stories, then you’ll love this one. Goofy and Spidey are two household favorites around the world, and this comic blended them together as beautifully as a spider weaving a web. It’s a fantastic story for any kid and any kid at heart! In a true unexpected twist, this Disney story decided not to off the one character in the Marvel universe that has been killed more than Kenny from South Park. However, the spin on Uncle Ben was quite hilarious.

Logan’s final thoughts “It’s a good book that deserves 5 stars [out of 5].”
