Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! And this week I’m going to be reviewing Star Wars The High Republic: The Finale #1 from Marvel Comics!

This book is serving as the finale for the ambitious multimedia project that started back in 2021 with the release of Charles Soule’s Light of the Jedi. It’s been some of the best storytelling Star Wars has done in recent history. From adult novels, to young adult books, to the countless comics it’s been a true pleasure to read. So let’s jump into the finale!
Star Wars The High Republic: The Finale #1 by Cavan Scott (Writer), Marika Cresta (Artist), Jim Campbell (Colorist), VC’s Ariana Maher (Letterer) is a very satisfying & fitting end to The High Republic!
The Story
Cavan Scott was the perfect choice to write the finale to The High Republic, and the story lives up to expectations. The issue wraps up so many storylines beautifully that is also so satisfying as a long time reader.
It also leaves a little room for some stories to continue in the future if they should so choose to. And honestly, I hope they do. So much time has been invested into these characters, it would be a shame to see their story come to an end.
The Artwork
Marika Cresta & Jim Campbell provide some of the best artwork they’ve ever done. In an issue that has a lot of high stakes for what it means, they deliver on all points. You can clearly tell each panel was crafted with love & care and it comes across to the reader. It truly is some of the best work they’ve ever done.
FINAL POINT: This is an issue is a beautiful finale to one of the most ambitious projects ever attempted in Star Wars history. It’s also an issue that all fans of The High Republic are going to want to read. Cavan Scott’s incredible story, together with Cresta & Campbell’s tremendous artwork make this the best possible finale to a series I’ve ever read.
Overall Grade: 10/10
