Star Wars #3 – A Meeting Among Friends

Published:

Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! And this week I’m going to be reviewing the 3rd issue of Star Wars from Marvel Comics!

Things have been getting very interesting for our heroes in the previous two issues! But for this issue, we’re returning to a very familiar planet! We’re returning to Bespin! So let’s jump into it!

Star Wars #3 by Alex Segura (Writer), Phil Noto (Artist), VC’s Clayton Cowles (Letterer) is a great issue that builds on the previous issues, while moving things forward for the next set of issues.

The Story

The story is split in 3 perspectives for this issue. First is what we see takes place between Han Solo & Beilert Valance. Second is what we see takes place with Luke and his ongoing journey. It’s a good story, and it feels like a set up issue for what’s to come next.

The story surrounding Han was really interesting. Seeing him relatively calm free is a strange thing to see at the start of this issue. His story develops very interestingly, very quickly. We see Han is still dealing with where his place in this universe. It’s a very great perspective to see him in, because you would think he’s in his element. But he’s not, and that’s such a fascinating read.

The Artwork

Phil Noto might be one of my favorite artists in all of comics right now. His covers are so distinctive, and his artwork in the pages are as equally impressive. He does an incredible job capturing the look and feel of Bespin that feels like it was taken right out of The Empire Strikes Back. Seriously, if you see Phil Noto is doing the artwork on a comic you need to pick it up ASAP!

FINAL POINT: Alex Segura pens a great story that puts Han in a very interesting perspective. Together with Phil Noto’s incredible artwork make this issue is a real strong point in the series thus far. This is shaping up to be a story you aren’t going to want to miss!

Overall Grade: 9/10
