The Story:
Johns takes this story to another level of deep as we continue to peel back layers of Simon and his values at heart. I love how they show this altered version of history and what is at stake at the same time leaning into the terrors at hand. Personally, I would love to read more of these three adventuring together because I do feel they mesh well and there is a jolt in the story as well.
I love how Rob continues to add flair between the tense moments and what is going on inside Simon’s head during those moments. The rough exterior that Simon lays out, and then when he does the right thing, such as helping the girl get to safety, are my favorite moments. The payoff is deserved and beyond enjoyable for me.
The Art:
Bryan, Andrew, and Brad deliver in this pivotal issue. I love the fractured memories and how layered and detailed the drawings and coloring are when Simon sees the altered reality in his mind. There is truly a look of compassion and anger drawn on Simon’s face as well when The Northerner calls him out for who he his. I can never get enough of the art in these issues!
Final Thoughts:
Redcoat #13 continues to peel back the layers and dive into Simon’s mind and what he stands for. This issue puts his morals to the test and had my heart racing at times!
Overall Grade: 9.5/10
