Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! And this week I’m going to be reviewing the 5th issue of Star Wars: Jedi Knights from Marvel Comics!

Marc Guggenheim has told some fantastic stories in this series thus far, and this issue is no different. For this issue, we join Yaddle, Seera Longa together with none other than former Jedi Knight Count Dooku for an investigation into a trade dispute! So without further introduction, let’s jump into it!

Star Wars: Jedi Knights #5 by Marc Guggenheim (Writer), Madibek Musabekov (Artist), Luis Guerrero (Color Artist), Clayton Cowles (Letterer), Rahzzah (Cover art) is a tremendous issue that is one of the best of the series!

The Story

Marc Guggenheim (thus far) has penned his best Star Wars story yet with this issue. The story focuses on Yaddle & Seera Longa who are sent into a trade dispute between the Trade Federation & the Gillanter Corp. But that isn’t the most interesting part, that comes part way into the issue.

The issue kicks off with a bang and another telling of what ultimately awaits Yaddle at the hands of Dooku. Once you get into the issue, things hit another gear. This story takes place BEFORE the events of The Phantom Menace, and it’s not stated how long before, but it’s somewhere in that 10-year window between when he left and The Phantom Menace takes place. And as the beginning of this issue reiterates, Yaddle & Dooku end up having a COMPLICATED history together.

Seeing what plays out with Dooku in this issue is truly a fantastic bit of storytelling. We don’t know all that much about what happened to Dooku from when he left to when he shows up again in Attack of the Clones. So, to peel the curtain back, even just a little bit, is a great experience.

The Artwork

Madibek Musabekov & Luis Guerrero again do an incredible job with the art in this issue. They do such a good job capturing the look & feel that I get when I watch The Phantom Menace. Also they do a fantastic job at giving things a dark, mysterious look that the story conveys. Not everything is as it seems, and the colors do a great job hammering that home.

FINAL POINT: If there’s a single issue of a Star Wars comic you read this week, make it this one! This one is about as can’t miss as it gets, and is just a great issue. Guggenheim’s masterpiece of a story, together with the incredible artwork, makes this an issue you need to put at the top of your reading list!

Overall Grade: 10/10
