The Story:

Brian continues to elevate this story with each issue. He delivers a blend of creative storytelling with intriguing beats such as Flash being nearly killed which made me gasp. I did not think they would kill a main hero but, the way the plot unfolded he had us hooked and second guessing if it had actually happened. Another impressive plot point is what is going on inside of Hollow Earth. Superman losing power and then pulling from the latest Godzilla and Kong film with a larger issue at hand. I need to know more about what is happening in there.

Brian also knows we want to see big, meaty monsters slapping one another around, to which he delivers. Killer Croc now being gigantic-sized and battling it out with Kong was an awesome inclusion in this issue. Tyler’s lettering helps to build into these moments, whether by capturing the banter with Peacemaker and Boomerang or the dire tone in our heroes’ voices.

The Artwork:

World building goes beyond the plot and words on a page, to which Christian and Luis continue to expand the awe-inspiring nature of Skull Island and now Hollow Earth. The artwork is impressive, such as the flashy colors, and then a panel switches to how Superman is using his X-ray vision, making it feel real. The various gigantic apes are well detailed and have a various amount of textures to them. The coloring and detailed art almost make it feel as though the rough and stiff hair or skin is able to be felt on the panels alone.

Final Thoughts:

Justice League vs Godzilla vs Kong pt 2 #2 continues to elevate the world-building and storytelling, making this run a monstrous hit.
