Creative Team:
Marc Guggenheim: WRITER
Brian Reber: ARTIST
Kaare Andrews: COLORS and COVER
VC’s Travis Lanham: LETTERS
*SPOILERS AHEAD*
The Story:
Marc pulls no punches in where he takes this issue as straight from the get-go he has us in a heart-pounding battle. Peter is in a fit of rage which is emboldened by Travis’s lettering work that really hammers home the heartbreak he is feeling. However, there is just enough from Logan to make you question if what we saw was real or not and Marc does a great job of planting the seeds of doubt in our minds about what truly happened.
This issue moves at breakneck speed, and it is unusual for Wolverine to be on his heels. Again, Marc is so good in this issue at turning the characters upside down and against their normal personalities. There is almost a desperation within this issue that works well.
The Art:
Brian and Kaare match the all-out fight to the death as it gets chaotic in this issue. As we transition throughout the duo brings the hate and anger into Peter’s eyes, which can be hard to convey through his mask. They give us a real taste of Peter’s powers and strength, as within this fight, you see Wolverine thrown around and torn apart. One thing they do well is that as this battle rages on, both men are taking hits, and you can visually see them being torn apart and worn down. Logan is drawn with desperation turned viciousness in his face in striking detail.
Final Thoughts:
Spider-Man & Wolverine is a test to see how long audiences can hold their breath, as this issue holds nothing back, knocking the wind out of the readers’ lungs with every powerful punch thrown in this epic fight.
Overall: 10/10
