*SPOILERS AHEAD*
The Story:
Matt: I wish I loved anything as much as Luke. loves going off on his own without help or telling anybody where he is going. It’s always funny that Luke consistently stays the same and never learns his lesson which Alex continues on in this story. Alex is however, leaving a trail of clues that lead to to Jedi culture and I love and get excited when we get more lore added into the world of Star Wars. Alex is writing Luke with a sense of power as he continues to grow and so far I am excited where this story is going!
Josh: We’re fully into a largely unexplored time period in Star Wars history. Yes, we’ve had a few tv series & some novels in this era. But we’ve not explored what happened in the immediate aftermath of Return of the Jedi to this degree. The real intriguing part of the story thus far is what’s going on with Luke. I’ve no clue what it is, but I am SO excited to see where it goes.
The Art and Letters:
Matt: Phil draws Luke’s lightsaber battles with a unique swiftness to them that reminds me of the prequel era and yet there is still that heaviness to the art when it clashes with objects. One of the standouts is how the worlds we are visiting are being fleshed out in the background and the little details of the inhabitants that we meet as well. Clayton’s letters match the boldness that the art brings in this issue as well and the adventures are here as I found myself immersed in the finer details of what is happening in issue 2!
Josh: Phil Noto might be my favorite artist in all of comics right now. I’d really have to sit down and write that list down, but when it comes to Star Wars absolutely nobody comes close. He does an incredible job capturing the likeness of Luke in a 2D format. Every panel in this issue is immaculately drawn, and Clayton’s letters compliment the artwork so beautifully. Clayton & Noto are an incredible tandem, and are perfect for this series.
FINAL POINT: Alex Segura is setting up for something big, that much is clear. Segura is still setting up some pieces for his chessboard, and that’s okay. Once he gets rolling, it’s truly going to be something to see. That on top of the incredible artwork is going to make this series one you’re not going to want to miss.
