The Story

After Mister Sinister took hold of Axo, Emma fought back to ensure that her empathic student came back to safety. She attacked Sinister with a powerful psychic blast that knocked him and her out, but also made her a prisoner in the mind of the villain. While in his head, Emma comes in contact with what looks like a young Sinister and she has to do whatever he says. This is her eternal damnation, this is her Hell.

Axo, who comes to and realizes Emma emma is knocked out and is depleted of her powers, as she used her last bit to save him, insists on going back in to bring her back. Every mutant in the room says it’s not a good idea, that there has to be some other way, but Axo knows this is what he has to do. He’s an X-Men after all. Axo finds his way back into the mind of Mister Sinister, just in time to see Emma being held hostage at a birthday of the younger Sinister.

Both Emma and Axo are desperate to get out of the mind of the evil Sinister, so they form a plan. If it works, they’re both able to be freed to their safety. If it doesn’t work, Sinister will kill Emma Frost. It’s risky but they have no other choice.

The Writing

Exceptional X-Men #10 was a great ending to a very fun comic run. I would’ve loved to see it continue, as I enjoyed meeting the new mutants and you can never have too much of Kitty, Emma, and Bobby.

In Exceptional X-Men #10, we see Axo really come into his own as an X-Men, and as a team member. He has confidence in his powers and isn’t afraid to take risks for the betterment of his team. In can’t wait to see where Axo ends up in the Marvel Universe, hopefully with Bronze and Melee.

Something else I liked about Exceptional X-Men #10 was how Emma Frost heavy it was. Emma is such a complex character and I feel this issue showed a side of her that her students needed to see, such as her sacrificing herself for one of them.

The Art

Carmen Carnero and Nolan Woodard have been the artists of Exceptional X-Men from the beginning, and have been consistent in their quality. In Exceptional X-Men #10, Carnero is joined by Federica Mancin and they both knock it out of the park. Together, Mancin and Carnero made the inside on Sinister’s mind look as unhinged and chaotic as he is. With Nolan Woodard handling the colors, this was sure to be a visually stunning comic, which was exactly what it ended up being. Hats off to the creative team for this exciting run!

Final Thoughts

As I said earlier, I’m disappointed that this is the end of the Exceptional X-Men run. I loved meeting the new characters and seeing Emma Frost and Kitty Pryde take the young mutants under their wing. Can’t wait to see where these new mutants end up!

Overall Grade – 8.7/10
