Eddie Brock Carnage #5

This is where the runner meets the road as they say, as we have a twisted love triangle in Eddie Brock Carnage #5, as Misty Knight, Eddie and Carnage are all vying to take control here, while also saving over 100 lives in the process.

But things are not as simple as that and sacrifices will have to be made in order to tow the line between saving or taking lives and between self preservation.

It’s another twisted tale featuring your favorite sadistic symbiote.

Creative Team:

Writer: Charles Soule

Artist: Juanan Ramirez

Color Artist: Matt Hollingsworth

Letters: VC’s Joe Sabino

Publisher: Marvel Entertainment

The Art:

OK, who decided to open the issue with Carnage wearing Carnage tuxedo shirt button covers, because that is beyond brilliant.

Carnage is getting his revenge on Eddie and loving every single second of it after Eddie tried to take over their relationship in issue #4.

And things like those button covers are some of the insane details that Ramirez adds into this issue.

It difficult to depict the action between Eddie and Carnage going on inside and out of Eddie’s head, but the art really tells the twisted story here.

Add Misty Knight into the mix and we have one hell of a party!

The Writing:

Charles does what he does best here, tells a gripping story with so many layers to it, it’ll make your head spin.

We have Misty desperately trying to save those kidnaped passengers, Eddie trying to do his best Die Hard and work alone to force Carnage to help him and Carnage, well, he’s just trying to eatch the world burn and kill some people in the process.

It’s a gripping 23 pages with an ending you NEVER saw coming.

The beauty of Charles’ writing is you never quite know where it’s going to end up. It’s so real and raw, and always takes a unique turn that includes life imitating art.

Issue #5 is no different and I love the conflict that Eddie faces here, how far will he go to help, when he knows the outcome won’t favor him in this case. Will he do what he needs to in order to survive, will he do what’s right, especially when those two choices might not create the same ending for him.

Overall Grade: 9.5/10

The genius behind this series is the constant struggle between Eddie and Carnage and how you truly never know who is going to win out in the end. In a world where every comic storyline is trying to surprise the reader in some new, grand way, Eddie Brock Carnage does that organically like no other narrative can.

It’ll keep you on the edge of your seat, but internally confused as to who exactly to root for and that’s just how Marvel likes it!
