Laura Kinney: WOLVERINE #7 – “My So-Called Perfect Life” Part 2

This run has been absolutely action packed, beautiful, with great story telling and some hilarious moments. Then last issue went in a completely different direction, and I loved it. Laura woke up to, a still tragic, but happy and normal life. Something we rarely see a mutant get. As she came to peace with her identity as Wolverine being nothing more than a coping mechanism, the audience of course, knows there is something else going on. However, we were last left with a happy and content Laura living in a fantasy.

The Story for #7 of Laura Kinney: WOLVERINE

It’s still Christmas and it’s clearly a wonderful life. While Laura continues to enjoy a more realistic life, slivers of reality begin to creep in. Whether it’s a reality she wants or not, she knows it’s not right. As the Wolverine instincts kick in, Laura can’t help but fight. Who, what, or why this is happening is still unclear, but one thing is for certain: Laura never backs down from a (warranted) fight. As things begin to get clearer, her instincts grow stronger.

The Art

I honestly didn’t think the art could get more fantastic, but this issue took it to another gorgeously badass level. There were a ton of action packed pages, and each one was a beautiful work of art all on its own. Every angle was done perfect, while no detail was spared.

My favorite part of the art throughout this run has been how Laura is drawn. She’s badass, and gorgeous. Yet, it doesn’t feel as if her “superhero poses” are for sex appeal. They’re needed moments of pause that showcase just how awesome she is and looks. She is the Wolverine, and she’s also the best at what she does.

Overall Grade: 9/10

If you haven’t checked out Laura on the pages of a comic yet, this run is the perfect run to do so. There have been so many twists, turns, action, and fantastic cameos. I also love that Laura doesn’t deny what would really makes her happy. Despite being over a century younger than Logan, she’s still more emotionally intelligent. She really did enjoy the false reality she found herself in, and wasn’t ashamed to say so. However, she also knew it wasn’t ok.

All in all, Laura Kinney: WOLVERINE is a hell of a good time. Filled with gorgeous action packed scenes with a beautiful story throughout. Logan was the first comic book character I fell in love with, and I’m so glad it led me to Laura. She’s the best at what she does, but what she does best, is nicer than what Logan does best. SNIKT!

As far as I’m concerned it’s now canon that Laura considers Julian her True Love. As she said in NYX #8, it’s “only him.”
