We are already more than half way through season 2 of “The Negan and Maggie show.” Better known as The Walking Dead: Dead City. Airing Sunday nights on AMC and AMC+, and episode 5 just dropped. Tread lightly for spoilers on the past episodes to catch you up. However, no spoilers for episode 5.

In episode 4 we got a lovely rat dinner complete with a show. Negan learned the trick to the walker fights, warned Maggie not to trust her son (which she already knew), and we got to tour the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Just another classic New York City attraction, dressed for the apocalypse, of course.

Throughout this last episode there was a recurring theme of rats. While, we are in the greatest city in the world, there were no pizza rats. Simply raw rats, cooked rats, and someone playing both sides. However, is one a rat when they’re being forced to cooperate with threats to their loved ones? As we kick off episode 5, the rat theme continues.

As The Croat puts on his gangster best, Perlie is now forced to face the fact that he lied about killing Negan. In season 1, Negan was wanted by New Babylon. Perlie told them he killed him. However, when it’s discovered he’s alive, it becomes obvious the death didn’t stick and Perlie is a trader.

Meanwhile, Negan continues to do what he’s being threated to do: get all the gangs of New York to work with The Dama to keep out New Babylon and their twisted bring back society ideas. While he’s just doing his job via duress, a wrench is thrown into his plans. Not everyone sees this wrench as an issue, which only leads to Negan doing what he does best. Much like Wolverine, what he does best, isn’t very nice.

Overall Grade: 7.5/10

In a weird messed up, years into an apocalypse way, this episode had some feel good moments. While I haven’t loved where the storyline with the people in Central Park has gone, I have loved where everyone else has. Alliances are shifting as more information is revealed, and people start to question who and what they all are fighting for. Walkers have become more a resource than nuisance, allowing for more focus on actual issues above just survival.

I’ll be reviewing the episodes each week, so make sure to follow along, and let us know your thoughts below.
