The Story
Moon Knight finds himself wrapped in chains, being held hostage, with no recollection of what happened as as he comes back to consciousness. He is immediately antagonized by a voice, the voice behind the chains. The voice claims to be Moon Knight’s owner when asked of his identity, and that’s when it hits him, Moon Knight was killed. He remembers the Moment of Death vividly, as it was by the hands of Carver and what appeared to be her sword.

The sword in question, the one who now has claim to Moon Knight’s soul, isn’t just any old sword. The sword is actually an entity, a thing of power, named Ginnarr, the Hoarding Blade. Ginnarr has a hold over Carver, a hold she isn’t able to break. The Hoarding blade gave her revenge from her time fighting in Vanaheim, and in return, Carver had to continue to kill using Ginnarr to satisfy his appetite and add to his hoard. Knowing Carver wanted out of this hold, Achillis Fairchild, the Asgardian, promised her a way to break the hold between her and Ginnarr. Of course, that was a lie, a lie used just so Carver would work for him.
Moon Knight is still being held captive as Ginnarr says he has claim on his soul, but what he doesn’t know is that Moon Knight’s soul is already claimed. Moon Knight, being the Fist of Khonshu, serves Khonshu and only Khonshu. So, what happens when a claim is trespassed on?
The Writing
In the eighth installment of Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu, Jed MacKay keeps the energy high with excitement throughout the comic. With learning the true identity of Carver’s sword, it provided so much depth to Carver as a character, and the storyline as a whole. With the big tonal switch midway through the read, you could feel the intensity elevating, especially when Khonshu himself makes his appearance.

Jed MacKay continues to create something special with Moon Knight. MacKay has a knack for keeping you locked into the story, and wanting more by the end of the comic. Again, he makes me so excited to read the next issue of Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu.
The Art
Thanks to Devmalya Pramanik, Rachelle Rosenberg, Cory Petit, the artwork of Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu #8 was unlike any other comic in the series. With so many interesting textures in the backgrounds of the panels by Pramanik, added with the vibrant contrasting colors from Rosenberg, each page was an absolute masterpiece.
Cory Petit brought so much depth to each sentence with his work on the lettering, especially when the words came from Khonshu and Ginnarr. Some of the best art has to do with Ginnar, the Hoarding Blade, as the reveal of his true form was something you didn’t want to take your eyes away from. All in all, the artists deserve a 10 out of 10 themselves.
Overall Grade – 9.4/10
