The Story:
Wonder Man comes calling after Killerwatt stole his name. Meanwhile and new threat emerges with it’s eyes set on the Church of Ultron!
The Writing:
To no one’s surprise, this issue was impeccably well written by Gerry Duggan. The care that has been given to the characters in this series has been a big selling point and this issue is no different. Allowing Killerwatt to take center stage, Duggan brings the reader around to empathizing with him. Not only is his story and motivations put on display but the interaction between him and Wonder Man was a wonderful addition to the series as a whole. Not to be outdone by a little male bonding, Duggan also introduces the new threat going forward with the right amount of fear and excitement. I am so ready to see where he takes this story next month!
The Art:
The art team of Kim and Hesli crushed this issue! The action at the Church of Ultron alone was enough to send me over the moon but there is one page in this issue that took my breath away. I won’t spoil it here, but just know that it involves pollution and a silhouette in front of the setting sun. The cover, while a bit misleading, was also a fantastic piece of art as always!
Overall Grade: 10/10
I loved this issue. It doesn’t hurt that one of my favorite, and most underrated, Avengers is back in Wonder Man. However, the emotion and action on display in this book is what really made it soar. With an amazing story, wonderful art, and the promise of what is to come West Coast Avengers is a must read!
