The Story
The fight to bring down Death Grip continues in Deadpool #14! After searching high and low for a way to bring down the one who killed Deadpool, Deadpool & Daughters, LLC, may have found a way. After acquiring the Harpe, a mystical weapon, the team also received Death Grip’s location from Solem. So, the only thing to do now is find Death Grip and end this harrowing fight once and for all. Once they arrive to Death Grip’s location, they see that the villain killed his army just to bring them back as zombies. Now the fight isn’t only between them and Death Grip, but Deadpool, Ellie, Princess, and Taskmaster must fight his army of zombies too!
With so many “magic, zombies, kung-fu, ninja-monks” coming their way, it looks like Ellie’s no-killing rule may have to be broken. The monk-men seem to be much more than the team bargained for, as before their eyes, the zombie army sets themselves on fire. Deadpool takes quite a few hits from them, which is concerning as he and Ellie’s healing factors aren’t working at a hundred percent. The battle persists until Deadpool reaches his main target, Death Grip himself. The only thing that can save Deadpool & Daughters, LLC, is the Harpe, but how will it work against someone who’s already dead?
The Writing
There’s been so much build up for this battle between Death Grip and Deadpool throughout this comic run, I’m glad this wasn’t finished in one comic. In the fight against Death Grip, it seems no matter what Deadpool does, he’s always a couple steps behind Death Grip. So, to see Deadpool, Ellie, Princess, and Taskmaster finally get to take on Death Grip, and his newly created army of zombies, the excitement was a an all time high. Along with the action of the fight, there’s also the great bit of Deadpool humor throughout the book. Cody Ziglar does it again with keeping you hooked into the story and have you wanting more by the end of it.
The Art
The tone is immediately set by Rogê Antônio and Gugu-eFX with Deadpool & Daughters, LLC, facing the army of the undead. With Deadpool’s team donning the truest of reds, and Death Grip’s side entering the battle in every tone of blue, it makes for a beautiful juxtaposition of good versus evil. Throughout Deadpool #13, Gugu-eFX uses his talents as the colorist to create so many panels that are dripping in drama and exhilaration. Adding his talents with Rogê Antônio’s art, you have yourself a comic that isn’t only exciting to read, but an absolute pleasure to get lost in.
Overall Grade – 8/10
