When it comes to this past weekend, there was a lot to enjoy for Free Comic Book Day. It was amazing to see so many people flooding local comic book stores, and checking out comics. There was a lot to enjoy, and things kicked off with four comics that I got a chance to read and to enjoy during the weekend.

  1. Fantastic Four/ X-Men  #1

What a wonderful start off to introduce both new and old readers to the family. I have to also mention that one of our comic bullpen writers was quoted in one of the pages of this specific issue. I was not only glad to see that but, this gives a fresh and new perspective on the Fantastic Four. Many of us seasoned readers know our lovely heroes Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny, and Ben Grimm. These four characters are so beloved, and I can’t wait to read their next adventure in the second issue. It also included a story with the X-Men who readers love as a group.  I enjoyed the art as well, it gives a ‘pop’ to each character.

  1. DC All In: 2025 Special Edition

This is another great comic that features Superman. This issue just doesn’t have Superman, there is also Batman, Wonder Woman, and more heroes. I liked the story overall, it captures an essence about Superman and how he reacts with the other beloved heroes. I like how there seems to be a cohesive working together ethic that they have. I also will mention that I do love art as well. It is beautiful, with vibrant colors and brings a classic look to all the characters.

3.BOOM! Studios 20th Anniversary Special

A combination of beloved stories from BOOM! Studios, that provides a sneak peek into all of the worlds. Something Is Killing The Children, BRZRKR, Mouse Guard, Irredeemable and an exclusive Hello-Darkness Story. I love the variety of stories that this issue has, and again, for the new comic book reader it’s important.  I enjoyed reading all of the stories, and the art is just as good as I remember when reading any BOOM! Studios stories. The art is also very specific, and gets me right into the story.

This is just a snapshot of some of the free comics that were available to everyone. I encourage everyone reading this, to please support your local comic shop. If you don’t know where to go, you can use a comic shop locator and type in your zip code and I’m sure a few will come up.  I’m hoping to see and hear everyone participating for free comic book day 2026, and I’m sure it will be a blast!
