Finally after so much mystery surrounding the problems the TVA is experiencing, we have some answers! We know who is behind the Madness, we know who stabbed Mobius, and we know who it was lurking around the TVA. When Gwen started having dreams that lead her to the Department of Deferment, she couldn’t help but go down and do some digging of her own. That lead Gwen to finding a variant of the Scarlet Witch asleep, the very one who was crushed under Mount Wundagore. While her body was asleep, Wanda’s mind was very much awake, and saw that it was Nightmare who had tricked Gwen into waking her up.

Turns out, Nightmare had been feeding off of Wanda’s nightmares for years. Nightmare felt the need for vengeance in Wanda’s dreams, so he came to set her free. Of course, Nightmare isn’t doing this out of the good of his heart, but to use Wanda, and Wanda is very aware of that.

While all this answers a lot of the questions the TVA were attempting to work out, it still doesn’t explain who’s behind the Madness, and who stabbed Mobius. That is, until that person finally reveals themselves.

So, after all of the chaos that’s unfolded through the eyes of the new and improved TVA, we finally have our answers. Hopefully now the new TVA team members are able to move forward and make the necessary changes to create a Time Variance Authority they’d always hoped for.

The Writing

Katharyn Blair has consistently delivered an exciting storyline that has kept hooked in to every page of this run. I’m sad to see the comic run end, and I hope she continues her work with these characters in the future. The ending of this run with TVA #5 was very satisfying as we find out all of the answers we’ve all been scratching our heads at.

Blair did a phenomenal job with the TVA she put together including Spider-Gwen, Gambit, D-15, and Poison. I wouldn’t have guessed these characters would work so well together, but of course, Blair nailed it. However, what I think is most impressive is that she delivered some great material from Wanda, the Wanda the MCU have loved and missed! It was such a fun ride seeing her back, and seeing how she handled herself when Nightmare wanted to use her for his villainous ways.

The Art

Pere Pérez, Guru-eFX, and Joe Sabino has delivered a beautifully illustrated comic book run from start to finish when creating TVA. Every installment has been a vibrant goodie bag of excellent looking comic book characters and their stunning powersets. However, I think TVA #5 waas easily the best looking comic out of the five installments, particularly where Wanda, Nightmare, and the person behind the Madness is involved. With Wanda’s brilliant red Chaos Magic, juxtaposed with Nightmares erie green powerset, it brought quite a few stunning pages that I didn’t want to take my eyes off of.

Something that I don’t think gets talked about enough is the lettering, particularly the work of Joe Sabino. Sabino did a fantastic job giving power to every word Wanda uttered, as well as bringing the creepiness level of Nightmare to an all time high.

Overall Grade – 9.8/10
