The Story:
The New Champions rush to the aid of Gold Tiger as she takes on The Sons of the Serpent. Realizing that this new team can’t function properly without getting to know one another, the teens take time to do just that. It’s during this getting to know you session that Gold Tiger reveals her secret origin.
The Writing:
As I’ve stated in previous reviews, one of the most impressive things about this author is his ability to create so many likable characters and continue to make them interesting. With this issue taking the time to dive into Gold Tiger’s back story, he cements her as a character that fans can get behind easier. While Gold Tiger is the focal point of this issue, the rest of the cast gets their time to shine as well with some wonderfully executed dialogue that keeps the feeling that these are actually modern day teens dealing with the life of a superhero.
The Art:
The art team of Ivan Fiorelli, Julian Shaw, and Arthur Hesli put together a fantastic, bombastic action focused issue that doesn’t shy away from emotion and teen angst. Everything flowed in this issue from the present day to flashbacks, from video games to beat downs. The look of this young team and the power sets in play lend themselves to bright and exciting panels on every page.
Overall Grade: 9.5/10
Another issue of New Champions, another solid outing. I continue to be impressed by this creative team and the young team of heroes they are putting on the page. The New Champions are working toward a bright future in the ever expanding Marvel Universe!
