Absolute Flash #2: Wally is struggling to figure out what is happening to him after the horrific accident at the lab, which leaves Barry and his father’s fates up in the air. Meanwhile, the team led by Captain Cold is hot on Wally’s tail and will stop at nothing until he is caught.

Tom Napolitano (LETTERS)

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

The Art and Lettering:

Starting with the cover Nick Robles is adding some flair to this newly minted rogues gallery that graces this month’s issue. Cold’s style is that of a 1940s adventurer which is a departure from how we typically see him and this lends a bit of fresh air for me.

Going into the pages the artwork and coloring is still an absolute home run. The kinetic energy the coloring and art give off as the lightning is tearing around Wally is sure to leap from the book and into the reader’s hands. The way Wally is drawn with his movements and manipulation of the speed force of which he knows nothing of yet is fascinating to me. The duo showcase him almost vibrating and see through but, yet he still seems as though he is walking in comparison to everyone else. The chase sequences are intense in this issue which caused me to feel as though I, myself was apart of the hunt.

Tom’s letters manipulate around the pages and work as though they are apart of the speedforce and the chase as well keeping everyone, reader included feeling as though we are racing along at a dead sprint.

The Story:

Jeff is slowly building up this story and in doing so continues to crank up the heat with each passing panel. Wally is written in such a desperate manner and he captures the confusion that he is facing. There is almost a turning point in the story where Wally begins to slowly understand his abilities as he sees his past and future which is done subtly and magnificently. It’s the little storytelling moments such as this that left me really engaged and nearly sweating. Lemire just may make me a Wally super fan yet!

Overall Grade: 9.7/10

Absolute Flash #2 continues to up the stakes and brings the reader into an intense high-speed chase. The chaos and dust left in the wake begin to settle leaving us a clearer picture of what is going on. Oh and did I mention the final page will without a doubt bring a laugh from the audience in which I cannot wait to see?? Read this book!!
