Val Kilmer, the iconic actor known for his roles in “Tombstone,” “Top Gun,” “Batman Forever,” and “The Doors,” passed away on April 1 at the age of 65 due to complications from pneumonia.
His daughter, Mercedes Kilmer, confirmed his death to the NY Times.
Kilmer’s Past Heath Struggles
In 2014, Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer, leading to significant health challenges, including a tracheotomy that affected his speech.
A documentary later featured his struggles, but also how he adjusted to life without his speech and continued his passions like art and film.
Despite these obstacles, he continued to engage with his passion for acting, making a poignant return as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky in the 2022 film “Top Gun: Maverick.” His voice in the film was made using new technology, since he couldn’t speak.
A Legendary Career
Kilmer’s career spanned over three decades, during which he delivered memorable performances in films such as “Willow,” “Tombstone,” and “Heat.”
His dedication to his craft and his ability to embody diverse characters left a lasting impact on the film industry.
He is survived by his two children, Mercedes and Jack Kilmer. RIP Val.
