The Story

We finally made it to the end of the X-Manhunt after an exciting mutant crossover from the teams! With seeing how each team, such as the X-Men, or X-Force, handled Charles Xavier escaping Graymalkin prison, we get to see the end result of all their hard work. What I found the most interesting is how extremely different each team reacted to his escape. Cyclops and the Alaskan X-Men tried to return him to the prison, while Rogue and the Louisiana X-Men tried to avoid returning him to the mutant-hating cage called Graymalkin.

The search for Xavier certainly showed where the team’s priorities were, but I also felt like it showed what the mutants needed healing with. Cyclops, for example, harbored so much resentment towards Xavier, while Rogue still looked up to him almost as a father figure. One thing is for sure, I am very interested to see what’s in store for the mutant heroes after this event.

Last we left Charles, Sage was assisting him and his wife, Lilandra, escape Earth to go and help their daughter. In X-Manhunt Omega #1, we see Sage and Storm helping them escape Earth. The couple were so close to make their escape, but they still have the Alaskan X-Men on their tales. With help from Cyclops, Magik does whatever she can to stop the Shi’ar Dreadnought, but ultimately finds out it’s a ploy. Xavier and Lilandra were nowhere on that ship.

Speaking of those two, Lilandra is doing her best to remove the tumor from Xavier’s brain while waiting for the signal from Sage to launch their ship into space and never look back. While Lilandra performs surgery on the former professor, Xavier’s control over his psychic abilities grows stronger, giving him the perfect chance to address the main mutant that’s after him, Scott Summers.

With all of his former students after him for one reason or another, Charles has to make it past all of them with Lilandra to help his daughter. Time is running out!

The Writing

The X-Manhunt event has been a really fun and massive crossover. I have found it to be exciting to see all of the different teams have one goal in mind and that’s to catch Charles Xavier, even if they all have different reasons as to why. In X-Manhunt Omega #1, it felt like a really great ending to the event, with every mutant able to get some kind of closure.

With Gail Simone(The Uncanny X-Men) and Murewa Ayodele(Storm) as the writers who are leading the finale, it’s no surprise that the ending was one that would tug at your heartstrings. With several mutants in tears, it’s very clear that Xavier meant so many different things to each and every one of them.

The Art

Gleb Melnikov, Federica Mancin and Enid Balám are the artists behind X-Manhunt Omega #1, with Brian Reber handling the colors, and Travis Lanham on letters. The artists really went all out with making this as hard-hitting of a finale as possible. They really brought the depth of the story to life, and made sure that it left an impression.

Some of my favorite panels involve Cyclops and Magik, as they showed just how much action those two were putting in to achieve their goals. But the parts that really got be excited were the full page views of all of the X-Men, current and former. It was something we haven’t seen in a long time, and it was a really great thing to see.

Overall Grade – 8.8/10
