Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! And this week I’m going to be reviewing the 2nd issue of Star Wars: Fear of the Jedi from Cavan Scott & Marvel!
This issue picks up where the last one let off, with our band of heroes on Naboo fighting the Nihil. Will they be able to turn things around? Let’s jump into it!
Star Wars: The High Republic: Fear of the Jedi #2 by Cavan Scott (Writer), Marika Cresta (Artist), Jim Campbell (Colorist), VC’s Ariana Maher (Letterer), Phil Noto (Cover Art) is a solid issue overall, and a good follow up to issue 16 of The High Republic Adventures, but it’s not as good as the first issue was.
The story is fairly straightforward, and honestly feels like a bit of filler. The space battle in the issue is good and the moments of fear between our heroes were good. But the rest is just kind of there, and doesn’t do much to advance the plot further along.
And it isn’t until the end of the issue where things start to pick up. If you’ve read issue 16 of The High Republic Adventures, then you know what happens. And as a bit of fill in to that issue makes this one a decent read. But it won’t be going down in history as one of the greatest ever.
The artwork in the issue is as top notch as ever. Cresta & Campbell excel where the action scenes are concerned and those are easily the highlights of the issue. I also loved the coloring in the issue giving it a sort of horror movie like feel.
FINAL POINT: While the issue isn’t a smash hit, it’s still a fun read for fans of the High Republic series. It makes for good backstory to issue 16 of The High Republic Adventures, but it does little more than that.
Overall Grade: 7/10
