It’s Horror and Murder in the Victorian era. Writer Cullen Bunn, Artist Christopher Mitten, Colorist Piky Hamilton, and Letterer Frank Cvetkovic have made a beautiful first issue.
Welcome To Crane Mansion

The issue starts off with a view of the city and a monologue. It then goes inside a mansion, where a fancy party is being held. Our main characters Elizabeth and Arielle show up at the party.
From there, the ladies then go and mingle with other people at the party. Now we also see dancing and other things happening during the party as well. After all of that, Lady Constance Crane-Galdepark finally shows up. From that, the attention turns to Lady Constance, and we see all of the attention on her.
All different types of conversations are being. Furthermore, it seems something much sinister is happening. Everyone at the party hears a loud noise, and Elizabeth and Arielle go and look. The final panel shows the fate of our poor, unfortunate soul.
Cullen Bunn and team have shown what beauty and horror in this type of setting looks like. Between the fantastic writing and lettering, to the art and use of colors. As a result, we see that a horror story like this doesn’t necessarily need to be scary straight away. The series, only being 3 issues, is set for success.
Overall Grade: 10/10
Having known about the Our Brilliant Ruin TTRPG, this story takes the game’s world, and really expands on it. Additionally, Cullen Bunn not only uses the source material, but he also expands on it. I’m excited to see where the next 2 issues go from here, but also to see where our characters go from here.
