When it comes to the Fantastic Four, there are always meaningful stories that revolve around them. This is no different, as this issue deals with Ben Grimm. Ben seems to grapple with the fact of being The Thing. Going against Dr. Doom is also a hard thing, and something tragic happened.
Ben has lost his powers, and he has a complete breakdown. Ben cares about being ‘The Thing’ which I found interesting, because in other comic runs of the Fantastic Four, he usually wants to reverse it.
All of his friends, or should I say family, Johnny, Reed, and Susan come to comfort Ben during this time. An incident also occurs, where they come to talk to Ben. Ben explains that he doesn’t feel that he can protect Alicia, and his kids that he has with her. It really throws him for a loop, and he will do anything to get his powers back.

I really like the depthness and the vulnerability that Ben has, through this issue. It seems that his whole identity is all about being the ‘The Thing.’ He also has such an “identity crisis” because he doesn’t know who he is without his powers. Reed Richards tries to assure Ben that he is much more than his powers. When Ben goes to seek a way to reverse it, there is a problem with returning his powers.
I’m hoping to see what happens in the next issue, and see if Ben can be successful. Ben’s kids are very supportive of their dad, but can see the difference in how he is acting. Alicia also is very worried about Ben, and wants what is best for him.
In terms of the art, it is a standard Marvel comic look. I really like the way Dr. Doom and also the rest of the Fantastic Four look. Even the cover looks amazing, and you can see the rock crumble off of Ben. It really gives a feeling to the reader, about how they should be feeling when they read the comic. I always appreciate the artists, who give a unique take on what is happening in the story.
Overall Grade: 10/10.
