CATCH UP WITH ROGUE: THE SAVAGE LAND #1 HERE!

“CUT OFF FROM THE X-MEN?! Rogue races to rescue Ka-Zar and discover what is happening to the Savage Land. But can she outrun her past, or is this ancient world her perdition? The Savage Land has a new god, but is she merciful?” (Credit: Marvel)

The Story

After a terrifying trip through the Siege Perilous, Rogue ended up lost and without her powers in the mysterious Savage Land. There’s so much about the Savage Land that Rogue doesn’t understand, but what she does understand is that it’s danger all around her. Fortunately for her, Rogue has Magneto, who’s usually the X-Men’s arch nemesis, as an ally.

With Magneto, Rogue runs into the great tiger, Zabu, who’s missing his companion, Ka-Zar, the Lord of the Savage Land. Rogue believes Zabu can lead them to Ka-Zar, so she follows the tiger with Magneto following along. They’re wary of their surroundings as there is tension brewing in the Savage Land, and a mysterious enemy that’s caused trouble for the Savage Land’s people.

As they search for Ka-Zar, they meet a couple of the tribes of the Savage Land, and see exactly what is happening; a war is beginning. They come head to head with the Fall People and the soldiers of Sylanda, and Magneto is accused of being the reason the Savage Land is dying. The people of Sylanda tries to take him into custody, but Magneto always has the upper hand.

After that debacle is handled, and after Rogue and Magneto settle in for the night, Rogue and Zabu slip away to search for Ka-Zar on their own. Once she’s on her way, Rogue sees the magnitude of the situation with the Savage Land dying. It becomes very obvious when Rogue realizes that she’s been walking at the bottom of what used to be an ocean, but now is covered in carcasses of animals. Rogue knows she’s on the right path because a familiar sound wails loudly. It’s the sound of the threatening creatures that paid Rogue a visit previously and it seems they got their hands on Ka-Zar.

The Writing

Tim Seeley continues the excitement of Rogue: The Savage Land #1 in the second installment with even more thrills than the first. In Rogue: The Savage Land #2, it felt like so much more happened with Rogue, Magneto, Zabu, and eventually Ka-Zar. It seems there’s a lot more moving parts at play with the Savage Land dying, the war that’s being started, and the mystery enemies, and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out.

The Art

Zulema Scotto Lavina and Rachelle Rosenberg continues to impress in Rogue: The Savage Land #2. The combination of intricate details and Rosenberg’s stunning range of vibrant colors transforms the comic into a beautiful work of art. There are some panels that are absolutely striking, for example, a lot of the scenes in the bottom-of-the-ocean evil lair featuring Ka-Zar. I look forward to seeing what the artists of Rogue: The Savage Land #2 do in the next installment!
