“From the world of Something is Killing the Children, the bestselling series House of Slaughter launched three years ago to immediate critical and fan acclaim, selling nearly 500,000 copies of the first issue. Now, prepare for the end of an era that illuminated the darkest corners of the Order of St. George, with the final issue of House of Slaughter! The house is changing… with Edwin and Bait finding themselves in a whirlwind of uncertainty as they’re assigned new masks. But for Nolan, a very different fate awaits, one that will change the fabric of the hunters forever in this pivotal milestone issue that will change the Slaughterverse forever!” (Credit: BOOM! End of an Era

After an exciting run of House of Slaughter, we’ve finally come to the end. From all the wild stuff that took place in House of Slaughter #29, we see the aftermath of what’s happened to some of our favorite characters. For example, Bait doesn’t remember Edwin, which is a huge problem because he’s the person who protects Edwin. Right now, he’s just a scared little boy who knows he’s lost someone. Nolan finds himself in more danger than ever as he starts to get answers to all the questions he’s been asking, whether he likes them or not.

Here at the end of an era, we find out so many answers that we’ve all asked throughout the comic book run. Is there a monster? Who is behind it all? Who is the real danger and who is actually in real danger? Without giving away any spoilers, I can safely say it’s a wild thrill ride of an ending.

The Writing

Sam Johns wrapped up this era with the perfect blend of excitement and action, just as it deserved. With so much mystery surrounding the House and its people, it was thrilling to finally get answers. I thoroughly enjoyed how House of Slaughter concluded, and I believe Sam Johns crafted it brilliantly. Throughout the series, we saw a wide range of tones, and House of Slaughter #30 captured many of them. The action-packed nature of the issue made it the ideal finale to this story full of intrigue.

Now that the journey is complete, it’s rewarding to reflect on the excitement that defined it all.

The Art

The artists of House of Slaughter #23 continue to masterfully capture the story’s tones, bringing the characters to life with their hauntingly captivating artwork. While the art maintained the high standard set by previous issues, I’d say they surpassed that with the panels featuring the action at the end(really trying not to spoil anything!).

The vibrancy of the character’s eyes that cut through the dark panels gave it even more of an ominous feeling to the panels. The artists throughout this series has really showcased their talents and gave us a chill-up-the-spine comic that keeps your eyes locked into each page.

Overall Grade – 9.2/10
