The Writing:
I love that Greg and Evan are choosing to go with Maverick’s Red Hulk in this run to differentiate their story from the upcoming film. It provides some clever background into a character most may have forgotten about. Including his one-hour timer as Red Hulk has always been one of the funnier and favorite things for me and getting that continuity is amazing.
Harmon however, is a whole other issue that delves into deeper issues when discussing Sam’s Captain. The racial issues especially with the rich and powerful tie into real-world events currently unfolding which deepens the connection to this run. The team gives us another epic entrance for a character with Super Soldier, the son of Isaiah Bradley bursting onto the scene. I like the deep cuts and pulls they are pulling out of their bag.
The Artwork:
Eder and Fer bring about some panels full of action and excitement in this issue. They feature a prison break and a powerful entrance showing off the fighting skills of the Captain and the team assembled. When it comes to colors Fer is doing some smooth coloring with the suits and the explosions that brighten up the panels as we leap from setting to setting. Special shoutout to Joe who is adding SFX to the action sequences bringing them to life in a big bad way. Eder especially keeps the fun rolling as he keeps Maverick’s mustache as his iconic centerpiece differentiating him from other iterations.
Final Thoughts:
Sam Wilson Captain America #2 continues to up the excitement and action with Captain America facing off against a highly smart villain in Eaglestar. Greg and Evan leave us off on a cliffhanger with no clue how the team can bounce back from the ending of this issue! The artwork displays the powers and fighting powerfully as this comic continues to have my attention.
