Eddie Brock Carnage #1:
Eddie Brock has come a long way since his origins back in the late 1980’s. From straight up villain to lethal protector and back again, Brock is now hosting the Carnage symbiote, a bloodthirsty killer that is way more dangerous and ruthless than Venom ever was.
The question is can Eddie manage and control this savage creature like he once did Venom? Or will this perfect killing machine get his way? Only time will tell!
Creative Team:
Writer: Charles Soule
Artist: Jesus Saiz
Color Artist: Matt Hollingsworth
Letters: VC’S Joe Sabino
PUBLISHER: Marvel Comics
The Art:
Saiz is a master of detail. From the pills on Eddie’s tray-table as the issue opens to tiny details of Carnage trying to escape Eddie’s grasp and wreak havoc, the art in this issue draws you further into this nail-biting story.
I always look closely at the faces in a comic when commenting on the art because I believe facial expressions are the key to really adding layers to the writing in this medium. If you don’t feel what the characters are going through, it’s hard to connect with the action that’s happening right before your very eyes.
And Saiz does that so well here. Every panel, every inch has anxiety embedded into the art’s DNA.

The Writing:
What can I say about my friend Charles Soule. The man is at the top of his game and in this first issue, he’s chosen the perfect location for Eddie and Carnage’s first mission together. Why is everything so much more dramatic when you’re in a tin can 3,000 feet above the Earth’s surface.
When Eddie and Carnage search an airplane for a serial killer, things go from bad to worse.
When we finally see Carnage in all his glory on page 16, things have become untenable and the duo decide to take matters into their own hands. Things then go from worse to absolutely horrible. (Think the Chiefs’ Super Bowl performance.)
It’s a fun, sadistic task that Soule has taken scribing an iconic villain paired with a man trying to do his best amid a checkered past.
This series is one to watch, as it has all the tools of a big-time hit. The talent behind the creative is best-in-class and it shows.
Overall Grade: 9/10
So, Carnage has plans LOL. The issue ends with a true cliffhanger as the alien killer looks for his next victim and tells Eddie how things are going to go.
And he’s got some powerful, iconic characters in mind. This is one buddy cop journey paved in blood.
