“FIFTY YEARS OF STARDOM! For the first time ever, all Black creative teams join forces in a single anthology to honor the many extraordinary lives of Ororo Munroe! When intergalactic historians attempt to update their records on one of the most famous X-Men in multiversal history, they’ll find a woman too powerful to contain — and risk unleashing a side of her no one’s seen before. With appearances of fan-favorite Storms across the eras of Marvel Comics, superstar journalist and Marvel’s Voices creator Angélique Roché spearheads a celebration of one of the most beloved characters in pop culture history!” (Credit: Marvel)

The Story

When you think of Ororo Munroe, you think of a goddess, a mutant, a hero. Ororo, AKA Storm, is all of those things and so much more, and it’s widely known in and out of the Marvel Universe. In Storm: Lifedream #1, intergalactic historians are also in the know about how incredible Ororo truly is and feels her legacy needs to be reserved in their Lumaery Archive. By preserving Ororo, she will forever be known as the powerhouse that she is, and will inspire the future generations. This notion is presented to the Archival Council by two historians named Akasha and Ptolemy, and their request is granted happily.

With preserving her, the historians must copy Storm’s consciousness to a secure point in the archive, but Storm shouldn’t feel a thing as she is sleeping through it. She will be placed back home and Storm none the wiser to all that’s happened. But it’s never that simple, is it? With Storm being how powerful she is, the historians will found out that there’s no containing her.

In Storm: Lifedream #1, we get an incredible look at the past of Ororo Munroe and her incredible adventures across the Marvel Universe. With a look in the past, we also see sides of Ororo that no one’s seen before.

The Writing

The writers of Storm: Lifedream#1 did something special here with a look into Storm’s past, while showing the vulnerable parts of her life. Throughout the comic, you could tell that the writers are true Storm fans and showed nothing but respect to everyone’s favorite powerhouse mutant.

With so many writers involved with the comic, you would think it would feel somewhat messy, but that’s not how it felt at all. Every writer gave so much to the comic, while all found an perfect balance between the group. I loved so much of what they did with Storm: Lifedream #1, showing that Storm’s emotions were as much as a superpower as her mutant powers, and that she owned that.

The Art

With the team of talented artists and colorists involved with Storm: Lifedream #1, there was no way this wouldn’t be a homerun. With so many different looks of Storm’s and the many cameos of her past, I feel this was all handled fiercely and with such respect of the characters. The artists really hammered in the point of how important Storm is to the universe, as well as the fans, by making each panel eye-catching and a piece of art. Along with the artists, I can’t not mention Ariana Maher, who made each sentence pack a punch and brought even more depth to the story and art.

Final Thoughts

Storm: Lifedream #1 felt like it was made with the fans in mind. I love all that the creative team did with this comic. Hats off to the team!
