Kelly Thompson (WRITER) Hayden Sherman (ARTIST and COVER ) Jordie Bellaire (COLORS and COVER) Becca Carey (LETTERS)
*POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD*
Let’s Start With the Story:
Kelly continues to deliver a compelling twist on Diana’s backstory and the mythos of Wonder Woman. She dives a little deeper into her backstory showing us she was destined for something so much greater from the start by her creator Hecate.
It’s the little details and breadcrumbs Kelly leaves for the reader that continue to draw me deeper into this story. Diana is built with a softness to her voice and a loving care that I crave to be brought into reality so badly. She is written as a shining beacon of hope which I love so much. The monster Diana is out to defeat is just a footnote and what the true tale is so far is the characters.
The first issues feel as though we have only reached the end of the prologue and with the minor cliff-hanger at the end of this issue, the true story is set to unfold before us.
Now For Some Art Talk:
I would like to kick this off by giving praise to Becca and how she inputs some serious work lettering with this issue. The swirls of anguish and spells are incredible and add depth to the surrounding environment being crafted.
Hayden and Jordie build off of their previous work and build the scenery and imagery. Hayden draws Diana’s sword in such a massive, awe-inspiring scale and then weaves little details into the background. When it comes to slicing this creature in half we get the inner working and detailed look at what lies inside.
Jordie follows up with outstanding colors. The shift from a moonlit ton to how Hecate glows brightly as a Goddess. She then shifts her tones to the dark reds that stand out amongst the city backdrop and Diana’s armor. I continue loving how different the colors are and how they are used in this story.
Final Thoughts:
Absolute Wonder Woman #4 continues to be a hit. Diana is a soft-spoken warrior who is full of love and full of heart. I love the continued backstory we are given and this world that is created for the reader. It truly feels the team have only scratched the surface of this story and I cannot wait for more.
Overall Grade: 9.5/10
