Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! And this week I’m going to be reviewing the 65th issue of The Amazing Spider-Man from Joe Kelly & Marvel Comics!

This issue is the 5th part of the 8 deaths of Spider-Man storyline, and thus far it’s been a very good one. Peter has been named Earth’s champion against the eight scions of Cyttorak, and he must face all eight scions OR ELSE! So just what does have to do? Let’s jump into it!

The Amazing Spider-Man #65 by Joe Kelly (writer), Cafu (artist), Frank D’Armata (color artist), VC’s Joe Caramanga (letterer), Mark Bagley & Richard Isanove (cover art). Things don’t get any easier for Spider-Man in this issue, as he takes on his 5th challenger Cyra. Furthermore, this comes after he’d just faced Cyra’s brother Callix.

READ LAST ISSUE’S REVIEW

It should be noted that this challenge does feel a little familiar to a previous challenge Peter went through. Conversely, it’s just as gut wrenching as the last time Peter was put through a mental challenge. I don’t want to go into spoilers, because I feel you should experience for itself. But this issue did leave me with an overall sense of sadness for Peter.

Peter’s certainly been through a lot over the course of history, and he thinks that he can handle what Cyra throws at him. Nevertheless, it ultimately proves too much for Peter. Again, I won’t spoil the ending but I’m VERY intrigued to see where Joe Kelly goes from here. There’s a lot of directions he could go, each of them compelling, and it’ll be great to see how it goes.

FINAL POINT: Joe Kelly pens a very compelling issue that pulls at your heart strings from the get-go. Additionally, a twist at the end makes for an interesting development that should keep readers coming back for the next few issues. This is definitely an issue you’re going to want to pick up this week.

Overall Grade: 9.7/10
