Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week, I’m going to be reviewing the 2nd issue (10th overall) of the Battle of Jakku series from Alex Segura & Marvel!

Let’s Talk Story:

Things are reaching a breaking point, with the tension between 3 forces at a breaking point. Firstly, you have the fledgling New Republic just trying to survive and win the war.

Secondly, you have what remains of the Empire trying to maintain their control and hold on things. Finally, you have Grand Moff Adelhard who’s a wildcard if ever there was one. So what does this mean? Let’s jump into it and find out!

Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku – Last Stand #2 by Alex Segura (writer), Jethro Morales (artist), Jim Campbell (color artist), VC’s Joe Caramagna (letterer), E.M Gist (cover art) is a VERY GOOD issue! The tension is incredibly high in this story, and it’s a story that delivers on all front’s.

The primary focal point this issue is on Luke, Leia & the New Republic. Leia is on Chandrilla having just survived an assassination attempt by some lackeys from Adelhard. while Luke is trying to make it back as fast as he can. And for the first time in the series we get to see Han Solo!

It’s not really established what he’s been doing up to this point. What’s made clear is he’s rushing back to Leia’s side following the assassination attempt. Furthermore, there’s more backstabbing in this issue than in an episode of Game of Thrones!

There is a lot going on in this issue, but that isn’t a bad thing. It’s fairly standard for the series to this point and by now I’m used to it. Additionally, it does ratchet up the tension for the final two issues in the series. We know how things are going to end. However, there’s a lot of unknown factors in this that we don’t know what’ll happen to them.

Final Thoughts:

Despite some bumps along the way, Alex Segura is setting things up very well for the final two issues of the series. The tension is increased a few notches with this issue and should make for a very compelling read in the final two issues.

Overall Score: 9.0/10
