After she was put on a suspension by Scott to get some rest, Kwannon, AKA Psylocke, found her own mission that involves her saving children who are being trafficked. These children, some mutant, some not, are being trafficked by A.I.M. and are in grave danger. The children she saved in Psylocke #1 were being auctioned off, which is terrible, but in the second installment, it’s even more sinister.

The children are in a fighting ring and they have to fight each other to the death. Some of the kids aren’t mutants, but that’s no issue for A.I.M. as they are given the Mutant Growth Hormone patch to develop powers. Kwannon, along with Devon, who plays her “person in a chair” behind the scenes, have set out to save these children from these trafficking rings, all the while, she still hasn’t gotten any rest.

The Writing

Alyssa Wong keeps the same energy from Psylocke #1 and keeps it exciting while your heart breaks for the children Kwannon is saving. Wong sets the tone immediately with a flashback to when Kwannon was a child, gives you a good idea where her head is at while she’s trying to save these children. I think Wong did a great job showing how emotionally invested Kwannon is in saving these children and how personally she takes how these children are being treated. While we see great emotion from the characters, Wong is sure to include incredible action throughout the comic.

The Art

Vincenzo Carratù does a phenomenal job at conveying the emotion of Psylocke #1 through his art. From the facial expressions to the hard hitting action sequences from Kwannon, you find yourself hooked in to every panel. That matched with Fer Sifuentes-Sujo’s colors and Ariana Maher’s letters proves to make this comic and absolute delight.

Final Thoughts

I’m really excited to see that the second installment of Psylocke was just as good as the first one, if not even better. Psylocke is such an underrated character so I was really looking forward to her run, and I say that Alyssa Wong is absolutely nailing it.

9.4/10
