“WHO IS THE MOST POWERFUL? Sorry, Thor. Sorry, Hulk. These are the seven most powerful people in the universe, each wielding one of the embodiments of all power in existence — THE INFINITY STONES. Half of the Stone Bearers are villains, and the other half certainly aren’t hall-of-fame heroes, so what does this mean for the Marvel Universe? If Star has anything to say about it, we can start calling it the Star Universe. Can Colleen Wing or Phil Coulson possibly tilt the balance toward good?”
The Story
Everyone loves a good hero team, and what better hero team than The Infinity Watch? The Infinity Watch is made up of seven people who are called Stone Bearers, as each member of the team bears an Infinity Stone. The Infinity Watch is made up of seven members, Star, Multitude, Colleen Wing, Overtime, Quantum, Apex, and Phil Coulson. They need learn how to use their powers and work as a team, which is much easier said than done. It’ll take time to get where they need to be to work as a team. But in the meantime, there’s an emergency in New York that needs their help.
The Writing
The storyline is shaping up to be quite compelling as it introduces a new team and a set of characters we’re getting to know. Derek Landy does a great job of establishing the dynamics and personalities early on. The team is made up of very different individuals, with Coulson serving as the calming influence, which feels like an ideal choice. I’m eager to see how their relationships develop and how they begin to play off one another as the story progresses.
The Art
I really enjoyed seeing the team’s power sets in action while they fought off the villains in New York. Multitude’s power set was the most entertaining as we got an unexpected cameo of the Avengers fighting off the threat. The artists of The Infinity Watch #1 did a great job with the bright colors matched with the excellent amount of detail in each panel. I think this showed the most towards the end with a panel showing all of the Stone Bearers getting their powers drained.
Final Thoughts
I’m really interested to see where this goes. The first installment was as entertaining as it was compelling, so I feel it was a strong start.
