Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! And this week I’m going to be reviewing the 4th issue of Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku – Republic Under Siege from Alex Segura & Marvel Comics!

The pace picks up big time with this issue, as things continue to move towards the climatic conclusion at the Battle of Jakku! The fledgling New Republic is just trying to survive at this point all the while they’re dealing with Grand Moff Adelhard who is the ultimate wild card. Oh and did I mention that the remnant of the Empire that aren’t loyal to Adelhard are still out there? Well they are. It’s a jam packed issue, so let’s jump right into it!

Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku – Republic Under Siege #4 by Alex Segura (writer), Stefano Raffaele (artist), Alex Sinclair (color artist), VC’s Joe Cramagna (letterer), Taurin Clarke (cover artist) is by far the best issue of the series thus far. It’s action packed and has one INCREDIBLE plot twist that I did not see coming! All in all it makes for a great issue!

With the New Republic still reeling from the previous few issues, the leadership (Luke, Leia, Mon Mothma & Admiral Ackbar) decide they need to go on the offensive and try to undermine their enemies. However they also learn about the Empires plans for Jakku. They know they can’t lose the upcoming battle at Jakku, but Luke also doesn’t want to abandon the Anoat sector.

READ LAST ISSUE’S REVIEW!

Luke devises the plan to send himself, Lando, Rynn & Preeti along with a small enough force to try and disrupt things in the Anoat sector. It won’t be so big a force that it takes away from the forces at Jakku, but it will be enough to cause a disturbance.

The other focus of the issue is the relationship (if you want to call it that) between Adelhard and Reyna Oskure. There’s a double plot twist that takes place in the issue. I had a feeling that the first one was going to happen, but I did NOT see the second one coming. I do not want to spoil it in any way.

The end of the issue of course features a little bit of a teaser, but is it a teaser for the final 4 issues? Or for something more down the road in another comic/novel? Only time will tell but it’s going to be very interesting to see it play out.

FINAL POINT: I had high hopes for this series, and up to now it hadn’t lived up to those expectations. But this issue lived up to those expectations and it’s given me hope for the final four issues. It’s an action packed issue that really takes the overall story and flips it on it’s head. It sets the stage for what is sure to be an explosive final arc. We obviously know the overall outcome, but it’s the finer details that are going to be interesting to learn. This is a great issue from start to finish. It is one that you’re going to want to pick up and read this week.

SCORE: 9 out of 10
