The Story

In the last issue, Scarlet Witch #6, we were introduced to Amaranth, Agatha’s former trainee. Agatha gave Amaranth to Wanda as her new apprentice, and it seems Wanda is quite impressed with her so far. In Scarlet Witch #7, Wanda, Amaranth, Wiccan, and Speed are in New Salem at the festival of Praxidice, a justice spirit. New Salem is a hidden magic city that’s meant to protect witches, so what better place to enjoy themselves?

Everything seems all fine and dandy until it becomes apparent that something isn’t quite right when Amaranth gets injured during a game. Wanda quickly realizes that the entire city has been possessed, and all four of them are in immediate danger. Who could be powerful enough to possess an entire city and set this trap while hiding right under Wanda’s nose?

The Writing

Steve Orlando has done some pretty incredible things with this Scarlet Witch run so far, and one of those things being the incredible characters he’s used. This is no exception as I absolutely love who he chose to be the antagonist of Scarlet Witch #7. It’s a character that just makes sense given the past cameos that have shown up so far in the comic run.

I also love that we get to see Wiccan and Speed in this run. I’ll never get tired of seeing the Maximoffs together, and adding Amaranth to this family dynamic was really interesting to see.

The Art

The artists of Scarlet Witch have done nothing but give us banger after banger in each installment and this is no different. In Scarlet Witch #7, we see some really beautiful displays of Wanda’s power set that feel out of this world. Wanda’s powers have always been depicted as larger than life, and that is shown clearly in each page.

What I really enjoy about the artwork of Scarlet Witch #7, and really the whole run, is that it is so distinct and full of personality.

Final Thoughts

Steve Orlando does it again with another exciting issue of Scarlet Witch! He brings so much depth to her character along with a good amount of lore. Can’t wait to see what’s next!
