The Artwork!

Fico and Ulises do a wonderful job bringing this issue to life in a vibrant way. The way we see the Black Lightning family utilizing their powers distinctively against the crafted creatures makes this a fun run. There is a lot of challenging linework that the duo are able to tackle together. The cracks of energy coming off our heroes and how they shape into the surroundings gives me a fond appreciation for their work.

Lucas can capture the deep voice of Jefferson and the irritable tones of our characters adding to the depth and crafted work the team has put into this run. The little details such as the damaged suits after a hard-fought battle endear me all the more to this issue making it a lot of fun.

The Writing:

Brandon creates a tumultuous family dynamic in this issue. Anissa is struggling and feels as though therapy is pointless which creates conflict with her father all the while Jefferson is out saving the city. This inner family drama draws us into this intriguing chemistry among them all. however, we still have an emerging villain as politicians are taking advantage and placing blame on our heroes. This is a deep-level comic and story that I think people should pay more attention to.

Overall:

Black Lightning #2 continues to bring home the action as there are beautifully crafted sequences showing our heroes at work. Meanwhile, the addition of the inner turmoil between Anissa and Jefferson add in layers to this story making Black Lightning a must pull monthly!

9/10
