Concert Madness
After the craziness our favorite mutants went through in NYX #5 with the Cuckoos, it’s about time they just got to relax and enjoy themselves. What better way to do that than going to a Dazzler concert? Well, historically speaking, mutants who are just trying to enjoy themselves never quite works out and this is no exception. As soon as Laura, Kamala, Sophie, Anole, and Prodigy get themselves into the concert, they’re met by a familiar face, Local. Local works for Mr. Friend, who we all know is actually Mojo, and nothing good happens when Mojo is around.
What’s interesting about NYX #6 is that it’s told in the perspective of an unsuspecting character who hasn’t been seen for quite some time. Honestly, it was a fun surprise as you don’t find out who’s narrating until the end.
The Writing
Overall, I thought the comic was fun and felt a little outside of the NYX run we’ve been getting. Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly never fail to bring the excitement while keeping you guessing. I’m not usually a fan of when Mojo is involved in the storyline, but I felt this was pretty entertainment. The writers do a great job in making it feel like a mutant comic, and not just a Mojo centered story, as I’ve found that sometimes happens when Mojo is involved.
I’m really curious to see how this ties into the Dazzler run(you can check out my review for the Dazzler comics here!).
The Art
There are not enough words in the world to explain how much I loved Raúl Angulo’s coloring job in NYX #6. The comic had all the vibes of a Dazzler concert in all the details and it was pitch perfect. Something else I really loved was how unsettling Mojo and Local looked in this. It really set the tone for how unhinged Mojo actually is, as they looked down right creepy. The artists all did a fantastic job in making this a visually stunning comic.
