The Best Team Up
If you’re like me, then you’re coming off the Marvel Studios’ Deadpool and Wolverine hype train and was in desperate need of another team up. Deadpool/Wolverine: Weapon X-Traction came just at the perfect time for for the best friends, at least in Deadpool’s eyes, to save the universe together.
In usual Wolverine fashion, we start our adventure in a bar. While Deadpool is enjoying himself at the bar, Wolverine walks in less than excited to see him. Immediately, Wolverine is adamant that he wants nothing to do with Deadpool, so he walks out with a harsh “not today, bub”. Deadpool follows him, because what are best friends for? While Deadpool is following Wolverine, he mentions that the magic word; “universe”. That’s when a multiversal portal opens up completely out of nowhere. How did this happen? Does Deadpool have a new power?
Wolverine is convinced his foe is behind this, but Deadpool makes it known that it couldn’t have been him. They both get sucked into the portal, whisking them off to another universe. Once they land in this universe, which was an easy landing for Wolverine, they realize it’s a universe of zombies. Deadpool gets a kick out of it, but Wolverine is less than pleased. The masters of healing powers battle their way through the zombie world, only to find out this universe is falling apart. Something isn’t right. What did they do wrong? Will the next universe have the same problem? What are they expected to do?
The Writing
With Deadpool/Wolverine: Weapon X-Traction, Ryan North showcased his talents by having so many different tones throughout the book. You have Deadpool’s classic humor, with Wolverine’s usual angst, tied together with a multiverse-ending problem. It all worked so well and I really did enjoy every minute of it. While it was a standalone story, I would really love to see what else he could do with Deadpool and Wolverine, especially Deadpool. It’s not often that I actually laugh out loud while reading a comic but Ryan North gave Deadpool top tier humor throughout the comic.
The Art
Javier Garrón did such a fantastic job with how much detail went into every single page of Deadpool/Wolverine: Weapon X-Traction. Each panel gets more exciting the longer you look at it, making you not want to take your eyes away from it. While Garrón handles the art, the color artist, Edgar Delgado, matches his energy and makes each page eye-popping. Garrón and Delgado are joined by Joe Sabino, who is the exclamation point to this wild sentence as a whole. The artists all showcased their talents so very well throughout Deadpool/Wolverine: Weapon X-Traction and made it an absolute joy to read.
