*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
LET’S TALK STORY!
Michael: This is a fun one. It’s set up almost like a who dun it, but who is it? The reader is in for a treat as they try and figure out who Venom could have bonded with. Suspects that you may or may not know include Luke Cage, Robbie Robertson and even Rick Jones.
When an incident in court breaks out, Venom comes to the rescue, but who is behind the mask?? He or she does have a little bit of Peter in them, as during the battle, jokes are cracked left and right. It’s really a refreshing take on this iconic character.
Megan: After all of the craziness that came from the Venom War, we’re left with wondering who is the new Venom? Who did Venom bond with? There are four suspects to investigate, but even then I have a suspicion that we are in for a real surprise.
While in court, dealing with the aftermath of the Venom War, a scary situation occurs when Andrew Forson attacks the courtroom, not allowing anyone to leave. What he doesn’t see coming is the All New Venom swings in to save the day, but leaves the courtroom and all its occupants wondering who is it under the symbiote?
HOW ABOUT THE ART AND LETTERING?
Michael: Gomez and D’Armata bring a little bit Humberto Ramos, little bit Todd McFarlane to this book. The art is stunning and the action reflects that.
The details on the faces and the characters is something you don’t often see. It’s so clean and almost feels like an animated show. I love it and it adds such gravitas to this crucial book.
Megan: The artists really match the high energized tone very well with their art, colors, and lettering. Gomez makes the all new Venom look like a feast for the eyes, while D’Armata makes them stand out on each page. As far as lettering goes, you can’t go wrong with Clayton Cowles as he excels every time.
I think my favorite part of the art is how well the action sequences are handled. You can practically see how hard Luke Cage is hitting his opponents. Excellent job to the artists!
FINAL GRADES:
Michael: 9.5. I love the fact that we’re going to have to figure out who Venom is as the series goes along. The new Venom is strong, smart and quirky. There’s four suspects as of now, but I have a feeling a new suspect might emerge next month or down the road.
Megan: 9/10. I’m really excited to see where this goes! I love the mystery of it all, and I love the suspects we have lined up as the possibility of being the new Venom. All around, this was a really fun issue.
