Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! And this week I’m going to be reviewing the 2nd issue in the Star Wars: Battle of Jakku series from Alex Segura & Marvel!
The pieces on the proverbial chess board are still moving towards their endgame, and a few new pieces have started to move. As a result it’s an interesting issue, but one that doesn’t feel very important at the moment. But that could change! So let’s jump into it!
Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku – Republic Under Siege #2 by Alex Segura (writer), Stefano Raffaele (artist), Alex Sinclair (color artist), VC’s Joe Caramanga (letterer) & Taurin Clarke (cover artist) is an alright issue, but feels more filler than anything. As a result it feels like the story is spinning in place rather than moving it forward.
VOTE IN THIS YEAR’S CHEERSIES!
The issue is split between multiple perspectives and in this case it’s Luke, the Imperial Remnant, Addelhard & Lando. Luke’s is a continuation from the last issue and is a solid story. Lando’s is a space battle and without any real consequences. Addelhard’s is more of the same without any new major developments. But the most interesting part is the bit of the story with the heads of the Imperial Remnant in a meeting discussing what to do about Addelhard.
The heads of the former Empire clearly have a goal in mind. that’s to achieve the plant set out before them by Palatine, but Addelhard is throwing a wrench into things. A vocal majority want to deal with him. There is a minority that feel like they might be warming up to him. It’s going to be interesting to see what happens with this moving forward.
READ LAST ISSUE’S REVIEW!
Overall the issue is fine, but there really isn’t much going on here. There’s no huge development or shock reveal to really draw you in, and as a result it makes the whole issue feel like filler and that the story is just spinning in place. Hopefully it’s just a one off, and things pick up with the next issue. Because with the series now half over, there’s no much room to maneuver for filler.
FINAL POINT: If you’ve been keeping up with the issue, it’s worth picking up. Other wise this isn’t an issue I’d put very high on the MUST READ list for the week. Nonetheless it’s still a solid read from start to finish.
SCORE: 7.0 out of 10
